The Data Domain primary purpose is to enable information sharing and re-use across the Malaysian Government via the standard description and discovery of common data and the promotion of uniform data management practices. These domain describes artefacts which can be generated from the data architectures of Malaysian Government ministries and agencies. It provides a flexible and standards-based approach to accomplish its purpose. The scope of data domain is broad; it may be applied within a single agency, or within a Community of Interest (COI – collaborative groups of users who require a shared vocabulary to exchange information in pursuit of common goals, interests and business objectives.), or cross-COI.
Data Domain will focus on the categorization of data, based on each Business Service Category defined in the Business Reference Model. The data categorization will then be described in detail based on its standardization areas. During the implementation, each data identified will be mapped to its corresponding Data Sub-Category, as per stated in the Data Reference Model. The data type, structure type, shareability, and taxonomy will also be captured, in the form of Data Subject Properties.
Data Domain separates the Malaysian Government activities into five (5) distinct high-level data area categories:
Socioeconomic Sector Data Domain refers to the data required by the Government (independent of the ministries/ agencies performing them) in order to provide its services to and on behalf of the businesses (local and foreign companies) efficiently.
Social Sector Data Domain refers to the data required by the Government (independent of the ministries/ agencies performing them) in order to provide its services to and on behalf of the citizens efficiently.
Security Sector Data Domain refers to the data required by the Government (independent of the ministries/ agencies performing them) in order to ensure that the country is safe to live in and the nation’s sovereignty remains protected.
Government Supporting Service Data Domain refers to the data required by the Government (independent of the ministries/ agencies performing them) in order to provide the legislation and policies, programmatic and managerial foundation to support the Government operations in the provision of government services to individuals, businesses and other organizations.
Government Resource Management Data Domain refers to the data required by the Government (independent of the ministries/ agencies performing them) in order to enable the Government to operate effectively and efficiently.
